RIDE CS Teacher Endorsement
URI is a RIDE-approved provider of the RI Computer Science Teaching Endorsement. RI has no teacher certification in CS. Instead, an endorsement allows certified teachers to add a credential to their teaching certification. Endorsements are optional for teachers to get, and optional for districts to enforce.
Approved Programs
RIDE has specified that approved professional development (In-Service Teachers) and approved academic courses (Pre-Service Teachers) are acceptable ways to demonstrate content and pedagogical competencies in teaching Computer Science. URI provides the following options for in-service and pre-service teachers to become eligible for endorsement.
Endorsement Requirements
The educator holds a valid Rhode Island full educator certificate.
The educator demonstrates content and pedagogical competencies in Computer Science at the appropriate grade band level as defined in the RI Computer Science Education Standards:

Design and implement grade band-appropriate computer science instruction.
Understand and apply techniques to foster an inclusive computing culture in instruction.
