NGSS Science Modules With Computing

URI as part of the NSF-funded RITES project is developing science class modules in each of Earth Science, Physical Science, and Life Science. Each module incorporates computational thinking by having students:

  • Collect and download large data sets
  • Filter, clean, and mine essential data from the data sets
  • Develop algorithms to process, visualize, and analyze the data sets
  • Write code to program the processing, visualization, modeling, simulation, and analysis of the data sets
  • Develop inquiry-based learning required by the NGSS

URI is providing free curriculum material, teacher professional development training, and the possibility of stipends for high school teachers to implement these science modules.
