Intro to Computing and Data Science Professional Development

URI Provides Professional Development that prepares a certified teacher to deliver the Intro to Computing and Data Science course.

  • The PD makes no assumptions about the background of the teacher, except that they are willing to learn.
  • The PD includes all curricular materials necessary to teach the course.
  • URI has U.S. National Science Foundation funding and support from CS4RI that allows it to waive PD costs for the 2018-2019 school year. There is no cost for this PD for SY 2018-19.
  • A stipend will be provided to teachers who are fully committed to teaching this course and participating in all PD training requirements.
  • URI Supports an on-going Community of Practice with URI staff and all teachers teaching this course. The CoP provides an online forum, online teacher help sessions, and site visits/in-person help.

RI educators successfully completing this PD will become eligible to offer this course for concurrent enrollment. See the Concurrent Enrollment Program for details on student requirements.

2018/19 PD Schedule:

URI offers one PD training for the 2018-19 school year. It is comprised of a 5-day Summer Workshop, four follow-up workshops, and additional online training. Those doing this PD must attend all sessions in this schedule.
