Code.org Computer Science Discoveries

Grades 6-9

URI is a Code.org Regional Partner and the designated provider of Code.org Professional Learning Programs in Rhode Island.

CS Discoveries (CSD) is a full-year introductory computer science survey course (can be implemented as two standalone semesters), developed by Code.org, targeted at middle school. The course takes a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as programming, physical computing, HTML/CSS, and data. Students are empowered to create authentic artifacts and engage with CS as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun.

Through the Code.org and CS4RI partnerships, URI provides free materials and free professional development for Code.org's CS Discoveries program to teachers in grades 6-9 who wish to teach computer science in their classes.
